How the car donation process works
Start your Tampa Bay car donation with mission in mind
Your donation begins when you provide basic vehicle information to AutoLift Tampa, including the year, make, model, location, and condition. You do not need to know the vehicle’s value before starting. Donors across Tampa Bay often give because they want an unused car to do something meaningful instead of sitting in a driveway, garage, parking lot, or storage space. The charity supported is Heritage for the Blind, EIN 58-2164446, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving people who are blind or visually impaired.
Schedule free towing wherever your vehicle is located
After your donation is accepted, free towing is arranged at a convenient time. Pickup is available throughout the Tampa Bay area, including neighborhoods and suburbs such as Seminole Heights, South Tampa, Ybor City, Temple Terrace, Palm Harbor, Largo, Pinellas Park, Valrico, and Land O’ Lakes. In many cases, vehicles can be picked up from a home, workplace, repair shop, apartment community, or other accessible location. The goal is to make donating easier than selling, repairing, or continuing to insure a vehicle you no longer need.
Your vehicle is sold and proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind
Once the vehicle is picked up, it is processed for sale. The sale price determines the charitable donation amount reported for many donors. Most importantly, 100-percent of vehicle proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind. Those proceeds help fund services for blind and visually impaired Americans, allowing your Tampa Bay car donation to become practical support instead of just a transaction. You are turning a car you no longer use into funding that can help people access information, services, and support connected to vision loss.
Proceeds support benefit connection and assistance services
Heritage for the Blind uses donation proceeds to help people who are blind or visually impaired identify and connect with support programs. This may include assistance navigating government benefits such as SSI, SSDI, LIHEAP, Section 8, Medicare Extra Help, and Medicaid. These programs can be difficult to understand, especially for individuals and families already managing vision loss. Donors or loved ones who want to check eligibility for assistance programs can visit nhftb.org/finder. Your donated vehicle helps fund the kind of guidance that can connect people with resources.
Receive the tax documents tied to your vehicle’s sale
Because Heritage for the Blind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446, donations may be tax deductible for donors who itemize deductions. For vehicles that sell for more than $500, the deduction generally equals the gross vehicle sale price, and donors receive IRS Form 1098-C. Tax rules can depend on your individual situation, so it is wise to consult a tax professional. AutoLift Tampa helps make sure the process includes the documentation donors commonly need after the sale is complete.
